Steven Hill is a longtime policy expert, organizational leader, journalist and author who has held leadership positions in the policy institute world in Washington DC and San Francisco, including at New America, FairVote, the Center for Humane Technology and more. He is currently a Fellow at Rutgers University’s Institute for the Study of Employee Ownership and Profit Sharing, was journalist-in-residence at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB), a Holtzbrinck Fellow at the American Academy in Berlin and senior fellow with New America’s Economic Growth Program.

Mr. Hill is the author of seven books, including Raw Deal: How the “Uber Economy” and Runaway Capitalism Are Screwing American Workers, which was an international bestseller and selected by The Globalist as one of its Top Ten Books; Expand Social Security Now: How to Ensure Americans Get the Retirement They Deserve; and the internationally-praised Europe's Promise: Why the European Way is the Best Hope in an Insecure Age and others. His articles, opeds and media interviews have appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The Atlantic, CNN, NPR, CNBC’s Squawk Box, PBS, BBC, C-SPAN, Bloomberg Business, Fox Business News, Wired, Politico, Guardian, Le Monde, Die Zeit,Hürriyet Daily News (Turkey), Democracy Now, Project Syndicate and many others. He writes a regular column on kitchen table economics for the new media website The Fulcrum, and a column for the German labor-oriented website MitbestimmungPortal. He is the founder, editor and chief contributor to the online Substack publication DemocracySOS.

Mr. Hill has lectured widely in the United States and Europe to business groups, government officials, policy institutes, labor unions, universities and NGOs, including the European Commission (where he gave the Jacquemin Seminar lecture), UK House of Commons, briefings for members of the US Congress and staff, Woodrow Wilson Center, School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), German Marshall Fund, Brookings Institution, Demos, Rockefeller Foundation, Economic Policy Institute, Cambridge Forum, Hannover Messe Trade Fair, re:publica conference, Hasso-Plattner-Institut, Future Internet Kongress (Frankfurt), Bertelsmann Foundation, Heidelberg Center for American Studies, Goethe-Institut, United Nations Association and more. He is a graduate of Yale University and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
